The obvious answer is to pull over and let them pass, then tailgate them while flashing your highbeams and beeping your horn. Extra etiquette points for flipping the bird.

Brakecheck. :)

Seriously, nothing you can do. You can try to put your hand over the mirror and hope they notice that something is blinding you. Chances are, they don't pay attention to much, so that hardly works.

As a passenger, I once turned around and turned a strobe light app on my phone towards the car behind us who had been following us for miles with their high beams on. Mrs McMike and I laughed, knowing that they probably wouldn't notice that little LED.

It did, and we were shocked.

Do a hand brake turn within your driving lane while maintaining speed into reverse gear, flash your high beams repeatedly, do a Jturn within your driving lane and brake check them into rear-ending your car. Use insurance to get a cooler new car.

Brake check the sh*t out of them :p....But seriously, I miss ye olde rearview mirrors where you could passive-aggressively blind the car behind you with his own high beams. These new fancy auto dimming rearview mirrors donīt work for me.

Kinja'd!!!

I guess the most proper way to alert someone is just to drive slow and flash your hazard lights a few times...

I once actually stopped, forcing the teen girl behind me to stop to - single lane, nothing more forceful than that - and got out and told her she had her high-beams on, set to the highest position, and it was dazzling. Her response was to deny that she had her high-beams on. I decided it wasn't my job to deal with that kind of stupid.

If you don't have auto-dipping rear view mirrors use the toggle at the bottom to move the glare from your eyes, while continuing at your present speed use your left foot to 'cover' and slightly press on the brake pedal and tap a couple of times, you may need to repeat it where safe to do so but often they are in a world of their own and couldn't care less so you may wish to pullover briefly to let the car pass or reduce your speed and indicate towards the verge of the road pulling over to the verge side of the lane to let the drive behind know you wish for them to overtake.

1st flash hazards on and off, if nobody is in front of you blink your own high beams a few times.

2nd I will hold my middle finger up nice and high and wave it around a bit.

3rd If that doesn't work I try to aim my own rearview mirror at them.

Still no? If it's really annoying either speed up or pull over and let them by. A harsh blip of your own highs is appropriate. Expect them to have no clue, give up. It's not worth getting in a fight over. I'm just trying to let them know they are stupid. Don't stop to talk to them.

A 20k+ lumens rear-facing LED light bar should send the message.

Slide over, let them pass, and drive behind them with yours on.

Bonus points for having brighter high beams. 1-2 car lengths behind should be the perfect amount to get at least two mirrors.

In the past I actually re-aimed a sideview mirror so it pointed back at the person. They then tried to be super aggressive and follow me, so I took them down a few service roads and made sure they were properly lost before sneaking away and going home. I hate when assholes follow me, and unless Im really in the boonies, I escort them to either local or state police buildings, in case they want to get up close and personal.

To be honest, if the road allows, I just turn off my lights... IT worked a few times... When it doesn't, I let the A...... pass ang let my high beams do the talking

It's been a long time for me. My current and previous cars both have monochromatic rear view mirrors. It's one of the things I genuinely miss in my current car. It was simple and effective.

Did this to some one. Was driving behind a minivan on evening with my low beams on and all of a sudden he pulls over to the side of the road. Next thing I know the dumb fuck is behind me with his high beams on! So I turned on my two 3000 lumen work lights on and showed him what daylight was.

I mean I get it, he's pissed at life because his wife controls him so he drives a minivan everyday but that doesn't mean he has to be a dick to other people on the road.

Move as far to the right as you can while remaining in your lane

Angle spotlight to point behind you at the offending car

Flip it on

If you have a car with a rear wiper/washer, turn the nozzle around so you can spray them with your washer fluid. That might or might not help, but it's fun to do.

I use the one finger salute and try and shine it back at them. It never works so I end up having to speed up a bit more. I think a lot of people don't realize just how far out their high beams shine.

If available, try the rear for light(s). Flash them a couple of times. If they don't get the message, leave the damn things on and hope for the best. They can be found on many European cars.

Don't brake check, the brake lights just give them a warning. Instead downshift a few gears so you slow up quickly but no warning lights for them to see.

Fogs automatically go off when you have your highs on. The fact that he has all his lights on tells you he's an asshole that modified it that way.

All cars? Your headlights should adjust up and down (in angle to the road) to accommodate different loads in the vehicle. Larger and/or newer cars often have self-levelling headlights, but older cars, superminis, and so-on usually have a dial to adjust it.

Uhhhhh, no. The vast majority of cars have headlights which are fixed in place. Even on cars with self leveling headlights, they use steering input and sometimes infrared to adjust the lights. Most can't be aimed by the driver. It's also always an option. I have a BMW with these types of lights.

Kinja'd!!! davedave1111 > DipodomysDeserti

Kinja'd!!!0

See my previous reply. It depends what type of car you're talking about. I don't think you've quite understood what we're talking about, from your comment about self-leveling lights. Those are the automatically adjusting type. The other type has to be levelled by the driver, only most people don't know what that dial does.

Yeah, Teslas and some VW's have that, but the vast majority of cars don't. I've owned BMW, Honda, Toyota, subarus, ford, and Merc cars and none of them have had this function.
